Chapter Thirteen

Sarah didn’t understand how the women and kids around her could sit and idly carry on conversations while their husbands, boyfriends and fathers were out on the ice, skating around with small blades on their feet. Those blades by the way were sharp and it was easy to imagine them cutting into skin. Sarah knew there was some protection under the players’ jerseys, but she didn’t think it was enough.

She glanced over to see if anyone else was on the edge of the seat like she was, but most of the adults in the suite weren’t even watching the game. There was an even mix of people talking and staring at their phones, totally distracted from what was going on down on the ice. The notion of not watching every move happening on the ice was crazy in Sarah’s mind.

Looking back, she saw Reid climb over the boards and skate into the play. Sarah could still feel the heat he caused from his surprise attention as soon as they got to the hotel room radiating through her body. She’d been hoping the vacation would lead to clothes being thrown everywhere, but she hadn’t realized what it would do to her body.

After their minds had cleared a little and Reid untied her hands, they’d rolled so she laid on top of him. Her ear listened to his chest to hear his heart beat and his lungs take in air. It was so calm and peaceful that Sarah had wanted to stay there forever. She was so completely satisfied that with her hands free she didn’t bother egging Reid into a round two.

They just talked about everything they could think of. Sarah explained what she’d been blabbering about as far as him being the reason for her sex-athon. With Reid’s eyes burning into her, she’d realized those were the eyes she was thinking about after their speed date. It didn’t make her feel any less slutty, actually it made things worse in that department, but it did give her insight into why the something missing with Aaron was suddenly there. It wasn’t something Aaron made her feel, it was the warmness that she felt around Reid.

He’d looked skeptical after what was a somewhat embarrassing and long explanation, but she didn’t care. Her only worry was trying to figure out a way to make sure she didn’t scare him off. That task was easier said than done when she felt the need to share all her past mistakes to warn Reid of where to keep her in line.

Trying to focus on the game and not let her mind wander, she held her breath as she saw Reid’s number twelve skating towards the opposite end of the ice. He drove the net, but had someone from the opposing team breathing down his neck. He tried to confuse the goaltender by moving the puck to the left and right quickly, but the goalie tracked the puck and made the save.

Reid’s momentum kept him skating by the net and behind it, where the guy who was breathing down his neck powered him into the boards.
